Faculty Advisor

Dr. Gary L. Cloud is University Distinguished Professor, currently employed part-time in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI, and in the MSU Composite Vehicle Research Center, of which he is the Founding Director. He received BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Mechanics from Michigan Technological University.

Dr. Cloud has participated fully as a dedicated scholar, researcher, engineer, and teacher for his entire 59 years as a faculty member. He was named University Distinguished Professor, the highest faculty rank at MSU, in 2007. In 1990, he won the "D.E. Harting Award" for "Best Paper of the Year" published in the journal Experimental Techniques. In 1994 he was honored with the "Distinguished Faculty Award" from Michigan State University. He received the "Withrow Senior Distinguished Scholar Award" from the MSU College of Engineering in 1995.
